About Us

We are an eight doctor partnership with full support staff servicing 14,000 Bexleyheath residents. We practice from purpose-built premises in central Bexleyheath. We are a fully computerised practice, and also a practice used for training newly qualified doctors. The doctors comprise the following partners:

  • Dr Mukund Mehta
  • Dr Howard Stoate
  • Dr Nick Joyner
  • Dr Karen Upton
  • Dr Julian Arscott-Barber
  • Dr Nelun Elphick
  • Dr Anna Malone
  • Dr Samina Shah
  • Dr Miran Patel

Practice Nurses

Our three experienced practice nurses:

  • Maureen O'Sullivan
  • Sandy McCartney
  • Julie Ginn

have also received additional training in family planning, asthma, diabetes and disease management. They also manage wound care in the treatment room. They work closely with the doctors and are trained to do an extensive range of procedures and tests. They are available by appointment for such services as foreign travel vaccinations, cervical smear and routine blood pressure checks, routine health checks on our elderly patients and advice on HRT. The practice nurses are happy to discuss aspects of losing weight and giving up smoking.

Practice Manager

Martin Evans is our practice manager and is responsible for the day-to-day running of the practice. He may be able to help you with any administrative or non-medical aspects of the service we provide. He is also available to discuss any complaints or suggestions about improving our service.

The Receptionists

The reception staff are here to help you and are your link with the rest of the health care team. They have a difficult job to do with telephone calls and enquiries coming from every direction. When you telephone for medical attention the receptionist may need to ask for a few details in order to judge the urgency of your request. They have been asked to do this, but the information you give will always be treated in confidence as they are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as doctors and nurses.

The Administration Team

There are many 'behind the scenes' jobs to be carried out by our administration staff, which include the processing of all forms and registration papers, hospital referral letters and keeping our computer records accurate. Lesley Carroll is our practice secretary and Trish Wedderkop is in charge of data processing and patient registration. In addition we also employ Yvonne Miller who is responsible for finance including the administration of insurance company medical reports and all non-NHS medical services provided to our patients. Should you have any queries regarding these matters please speak to them.

District Nurses

There is a district nursing team attached to the practice that provide home nursing services mostly for the housebound, elderly, chronically sick and people who have had recent operations. They also run a weekly leg ulcer clinic on Tuesdays in the treatment room. If you require their services you may contact them by telephoning 020 8298 1662 Monday to Friday (020 8302 2678 Sunday or bank holidays), or messages can be left with the receptionists.

Health Visitors

The health visitors work from the surgery and are concerned with the promotion of health of all ages with special emphasis on families and their children under the age of five years. They are involved with our child health screening programme and also run twice-weekly well baby clinics at the surgery. They can be contacted by telephone on 020 8304 8352.

Community Midwives

Our midwives share with your doctor your antenatal and postnatal care. They are here to help expectant mothers with all aspects of health care during pregnancy and to look after mother and baby in the early postnatal period. The midwife is available in the surgery by appointment on Tuesday afternoon. Midwives can be contacted at Queen Mary's Hospital on 020 8302 2678.

Counsellors

There are counsellors based at the Albion Surgery who have been trained to help with a range of personal and emotional problems. This service is available for patients wishing to see a counsellor after discussion with your doctor.

The Main Building

The main surgery comprises a ground floor with a waiting room, reception area, twelve consulting rooms, a minor surgery room, and the managers office.
The first floor consists of a common room with a practice library, accommodation for administrative staff as well as a group psychotherapy room and a room for a practice counsellor.

Stanley Terrace

In addition to the main building district nursing staff and the health visitor team are located in the adjacent Stanley Terrace building.
